Andersen Racing's Karting Team Expands
To Offer International Program
PALMETTO, Fla., March 22 - The American Formula 1 team may not be in action
at the moment, but Andersen Racing has formed a formal alliance with Kalman
Motorsport of Hungary so the team will have a solid presence in the
European karting community as well as in the United States.
Today Andersen Racing's director of competition karting, Wes Phillips, is
on his way to Salbris, France in order to race in the first round of the 2010
Euro Challenge there March 24-28. He plans to have other American karters
with him to compete in other rounds of that series May 26-30 in Wackersdorf,
Germany; July 14-18 at Speedworld in Austria and Sept. 1-5 in Genk, Belgium
under Andersen Racing's new international karting program, an expansion of
the team's already popular corporate, regional and national karting programs.
"Having a Rotax European karting team based in the United States and
consisting of American karters has been a goal for Andersen Racing's karting
program, and now it is a reality," Phillips said. "We also plan to host
international drivers in the United States-based Rotax Pan-American Challenge," he
said.
Phillips, who has competed in numerous international karting events in the
past, can provide the experience needed by American karters making the foray
into international competition. The team, which is based at Andersen
RacePark in Palmetto, Fla., is also well equipped to handle the myriad of details
that European drivers need should they decide to race in America.
"When I first started competing internationally, I didn't know what I
needed to do to prepare for each event," Phillips said. "I was stressed before I
even got to the track, which took away some of my energy and didn't allow
me to focus solely on the races themselves. With this program, drivers can
sign on with Andersen Racing and have most of the details already taken care
of. We can handle licensing, booking, registration and even flights for
American drivers wishing to compete in Europe and European drivers wishing to
compete in America."
Phillips added that Andersen Racing's international karting squad is not
limited to its current roster of karters. "We have already had drivers commit
to multiple rounds of this international program, so space could become
limited," Phillips added.
